According to Kodak company history on their web site, he started the company in April 1880, as a dry photographic plate manufacturing company (before that, photographers used wet plates). As the time went by, quote: “The idea gradually dawned on me,” he later said, “that what we were doing was not merely making dry plates, but that we were starting out to make photography an everyday affair.” unquote.
