What would the managing editor do?
This is what’s kept me from asking for help on the site. My managing editors are paid a commission of the sponsored posts they write. And here’s the thing: Offbeat Mama doesn’t have that many sponsors at this point, and commission on “barely nothing” is almost insulting. If this was a high paying job, someone would already be doing it. When I think about compensation for my dream managing editor, I start saying things like “the opportunity to gain exposure to over 25,000 readers a month!” and “the chance to get in on the ground level and help build a market!” and “a way to join in on the awesomeness of the Offbeat Empire!” But as a professional writer and online publisher, I find statements like this insulting. When I’m asking someone to make a big commitment, I like compensation to be part of the discussion. I thought about making this an unpaid internship, but the reality is that I need someone who’s already got these skills mastered — not someone looking to learn them. I take mentor
