What would the costs be to have system XXX with the operating system YYY FIPS140-2 evaluated for OpenSSL?
John Weathersby of OSSI ( http://oss-institute.org/ ) handled the contracting for this effort and would be a good resource for exploring specific validation scenarios. Based on verbal discussions with some of the players, a new platform will cost somewhere in the low five figures ($USD 10-50K), more or less independent of the type of platform. Note also that a loan of appropriate platform hardware to the test lab may be necessary. But, in any event, larger enterprises are not looking at big bucks compared to what commercial licenses would cost.
