What would it take to build a sustainable colony on the moon?
First of all, a lot of money. All kidding aside, building a colony on the moon would be extremely expensive–probably in the range of hundreds of billions to trillions of dollars. Also, there would have to be research done into how we can extract materials from the moon, essentially “living off the land”, rather than shipping everything from earth. On a more political side, it would take a great commitment from the governments of the world, and also their taxpayers, to spend the massive amount of money to build a colony on the moon.
