What would have made Twilight a better novel.?

Honestly, I found a lot of problems with the Twilight novel and series. But if I wanted to fix only one thing it would have to be the characters as a whole. They were too ideal and perfect. Bella is a Mary Sue, in that every guy is turned by this supposedly average girl. Bella is liked by everybody and has no prominent character flaw. The same applies to Edward. He is too *perfect*. If you look at classics, all male leads have some kind of flaw that they either overcome (happily ever after) or are ruined by (tragedy). Because their personalities are not really defined, I wasn’t sure what it was in each character that attracted the other characters, besides superficialities like “hotness” or “blood lust”.
