What would happen to any building which is vacated?
This would depend on the size, condition, location of the building and whether it is owned by the Local Authority. Consideration would be given to retaining any building owned by the Local Authority for alternative use. However, in some cases, buildings may be sold, with the money being used to improve other school buildings. Legislation is in place to protect school playing fields but the Department for Education and Skills is able to approve disposals under certain circumstances. Normally, money from playing field disposals has to be spent on outdoor sports/leisure facilities at other school sites as a first priority.
