What Would Happen if the Polar Ice Caps Melted?
If the polar ice caps melted, it would cut off all of the worlds oceanic currents. Currents in the ocean are caused primarily by the gradual melting of the ice caps. The cold water sinks to the bottom of the ocean, shooting in the opposite direction of the cap. when this ocean floor-level current reaches the equator, it collides with the opposite pole’s current and shoots upward. Once at the top, it will travel the opposite direction carrying warm water throughout coastal areas worldwide. Anyways, without the cold water from the ice caps, there would be no warm water currents, therefore plummeting the Earth’s global temperature instead of going up.
