What would GMO labeling of food products mean?
With consumer sentiment in Europe clearly running against GM products and supply chain responding accordingly, the issue of GM food labeling may be more or less moot, at least in many European countries. In the U.S., this issue is probably one of the more hotly debated ones at the moment. Here, where GM products have been raised and consumed for several years, either directly by people or by animals, opponents of labeling can point to the fact that no demonstrable harm has come from the use of GM foods, so labeling would serve no purpose. But labeling to provide “consumer choice” is being advocated heavily by others, and political pressures to do this are increasing.
