What would cause high and low atmospheric pressure centers to reside off the coast of Spain?
Think of the atmosphere as a river, and landforms as rocks in the stream. If you watch the current, you’ll see some standing waves–patterns in the water that remain fixed. So it is with our atmosphere. Some places tend to “attract” low pressure, like a spot southeast of Greenland, and the Gulf of Alaska. Some areas tend to “attract” high pressure, like the Azores and east-interior Asia in winter.
