What would be the most effective repair with such a slight slope?
Answer Hi John, I’m sorry to have to say it, but there is no repair for a shingle roof with such a low slope. Water that flows to the edge of the roof is moving so slowing on that low slope that it has time to flow sideways and in so doing, it finds the nails that are holding the shingles on. After a short amount of time, the water on those nails starts coming through. The roof needs a solid membrane roofing system. “Solid membrane” means there aren’t overlapping sections of the roof. It’s one solid membrane from one edge of the roof to the other. Usually that means something like a hot tar system. The problem for your situation is that it sounds like this is just a fairly simple, inexpensive patio cover that doesn’t warrant the expense of a hot tar system. Even if you had a hot tar system installed, new sheathing would need to be installed, since 3/8″ is much too thin to support a hot tar system. If you need to do away with leaks in your patio area, I would recommend rebuilding the pa
