Bush has little popularity among the nation; therefore the tendency is to place the other party in charge. 2. The economy in America is in turmoil, and rightly or wrongly, the conservatives are blamed for it. Therefore McCain is in a weakened position. This does not mean Obama’s victory is certain. It is possible that the public view and people’s votes will change between now and the election. But today Obama is ahead. The other point is that election in America has two stages: First, is the election of a nominee for each party, in which the candidates say whatever is needed to gain the support of the hardliners of their own party. We can’t get to know the nominee’s true face by his words, especially because at this stage he doesn’t have access to all of the White House’s information.
