What would be the advantages/disadvantages of legalizing prostitution in the U.S.A.?
I suppose it depends on how you are going to legalize it. Prostitution is legal in 12 of Nevada’s 17 counties, but it is only legal within licensed, regulated brothels. Independent prostitution on the street corner is still illegal. Nevada law requires that brothel prostitutes be tested weekly for gonorrhea and chlamydia and be tested monthly for HIV and syphilis. Condoms are mandatory for sexual intercourse and brothel owners will be held liable if customers become infected with HIV after a prostitute has been tested positive for the virus. I can see the advantages with legalizing it in licensed brothels, however, these are in rural areas, not in the major cities. Who knows how many people would be doing it if it were legal in the major cities. I would still not support legalizing random street-corner prostitution.
