What would be high miles for a dodge cummins diesel?
I work for a heavy equipment manufacturer and we use the 5.9 Cummins engine in machinery that weighs up to 60,000 pounds. I often visit Cummins factory in Columbus Indiana, where they send Dodge up to 700 of these per DAY. Engineers, who will go nameless, laugh at the Dodge installation of this engine. It was NEVER originally designed for such LIGHT AND EASY installations!! This engine was designed for a duty cycle of 60-80%, or % of time the machine is at full power per hour. They tell me that this engine in a pickup going 60 MPH down the road has a load factor of 18%. In the past, Dodge used to compare internal parts sizes of the Cummins verses Ford and GM. It has MUCH large internals. Engineers laughing say that it will last with proper maintenance and EASY 400,000 miles and the truck will go before the engine. The new 6.7 to meet emmissions is even stronger.
