What would be good clothes to wear in San Francisco?

We just returned from five days in San Fran (early May) and the best advice I can give you is to dress in layers.  Forget the shorts, you won’t need them.  If you wear a pair of jeans during the day with a short sleeve tee or polo shirt and carry a zip up hoody or light jacket, you will be set for the day.  We spent hours down at the Fisherman’s Whaft and Pier 39 and had to always put on our jackets in the late afternoon.  If you choose like we did to take a mid-afternoon cruise around the bay and Alcatraz, the wind will chill your eyes and ears to the bone.  Dress much more warmly than you would have anticipated.  The weather in San Fran is very fickle so bring long pants, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, hats and light weight jackets.  This way you will always be prepared.

Just wear something light – it will be near perfect temperature wise – as it is nearly yearround – you might want to bring alight windbreaker – but I doubt you will need it.
