What would be an authentic costume for The Nurse and Friar Lawrence?
Answer Hi, Amanda, Thanks for calling upon “Allexperts” for assistance in deciding how to costume the nurse and Friar Lawrence for a production of Romeo and Juliet. First, I must admit that I am NOT an expert on costuming of ANY period. I claim that, as a male, I may be excused for not paying sufficient attention to details such as appropriate clothing for an occasion. It is apparent to me that you have done extensive research already as you want your costuming to be authentic, so I advise you to use your own judgment as to what would be appropriate, based upon your findings. Flowing robes of white for the nurse and grey for the friar with long necklaces for rosaries and crosses for him and a folded white hat for the nurse might just work. Both could walk with simple white or brown leather slippers. I’m sorry that I cannot offer better advice, but my expertise in this area is quite limited. Best wishes as you pursue accuracy in your costuming. I applaud your efforts.
