What would be a real life example that reflects the “allegory of the cave”?
An example is one where knowledge is important. The people who stay in the cave become experts in cataloging the shadows. Somebody who makes an effort to get out of the cave, meaning, would spend effort in a different direction than the people who stay. But effort is limited, and the individual who spend the effort would become less expert at cataloging the shadows than the people who stay. The effort he spent would seem wasted to others, but that is not the reality. This individual is now wiser than the others, as he is aware of a different world. One hopes he would use the knowledge to become free, while others would have no conception of freedom, of what is possible, and forever stay in the cave, in their ignorance. An example is an acting career. Everybody sees the stars, but believe that such status is a matter of luck. An individual investigates the career, and realizes that not every actor becomes a star, that he could make a modest living out of it, and stardom is a remote poss
