What would be a good paint for painting aquarium decor?

They sell painted/decorated rocks at stores. I am not sure about the paint though, every time I used a colored-up decoration in my tanks, the color/paint chips away over 3-4 months. What I thought looked the best were the “holey rock” type of rock. ITs whitish, pourus and typically has holes in the rock itself for fish to swim through and around.
