What would a person need to learn for extreme roughing it?
She would have to learn a lot more than could be described in an answer on this site. You would need to have extensive experience in extended backpacking and back-country wilderness skills including navigation and probably firearms, a great deal of physical stamina and excellent judgement. That territory is extremely harsh, year round, with limited resources for shelter and food, for which you would be competing with the native animals. Three seasons of the year, the weather would be a dangerous factor and in the summer, the insects (mosquitos and biting flies) would have to be dealt with. Also, some areas of muskeg (marshy ground) are nearly impassable on foot in the summer. The native peoples took their whole lives and generations of handed down skills to survive in that environment. Some things that they did, like hunting certain animals, are now legally prohibited to non-Native Peoples.
