WHAT would a James Bond film be without cars?
They are as important to the plot as a gorgeous woman, deadly gadgets and explosions. For Quantum of Solace, the latest Bond exploit which opens on November 19, the Aston Martin is back. The iconic British brand starred in the third Bond film, Goldfinger, in 1964 with the DB5, which is regarded as the quintessential Bond car. It returned in 1965 for Thunderball and was replaced by the DBS for 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Other companies then got into the act of pushing their vehicles on to the big screen with the highlights being the amphibious Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me and the launch of the BMW Z3 Roadster in GoldenEye. In 1987, Aston Martin returned to feature the DBS and V8 Vantage in The Living Daylights, while a DB5 returned for 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies and a Vanquish was the star in Die Another Day in 2002.
