What will The Preserve look like?
The Preserve’s vision is to return 80% of the property to the state it was in before the levee systems were constructed in the early 1900’s. To do this, Keech Properties will add about 70 acres to the current 20 acres of low-grade wetlands, then restore all 90+ acres to pristine tidal marshes, thus offering habitat to numerous bird, plant and animal species. The Preserve will result in a four-fold increase in the quantity of wetlands, and an immeasurable increase in the habitat values of the Shores. Restoration will be achieved by removing invasive plants, native re-vegetation and returning tidal flows to the area. A public pathway system will allow visitors to view and enjoy this new eco-system.
