What will the playing final consist of?
A playing final is required at the end of each semester. This is the students opportunity to demonstrate the acquired knowledge from throughout the semester. Exact grading and material for each will be announced upon assignment. Symphonic Band December Final: All students are required to play an assigned Regional Etude. The grading ruberic is based on tone, rhythm, musicality, and pitch (each area carrying a specific point value). Concert Band December Final: All students must play the 12 Major scales (with arpeggios) and chromatic scale from memory. They may play them one at a time. Each scale is worth 10 points (for a total value of 130 points). Symphonic Band May Final: All students must play the 12 Major scales (with arpeggios) and chromatic scale from memory. This must be done in under five (5) minutes. This exam is Pass/Fail. Students may repeat the exam until they have passed it (up until the pre-assigned deadline).
