What will the economic impact be locally?
The new power plant and transmission facilities will provide significant economic benefits to Glades and Hendry counties. The plant will contribute an average of more than $21 million in property taxes each year in Glades County. In Hendry County, the proposed substation and transmission lines will also contribute several million dollars in property taxes each year. This will allow for many improvements to local governmental services such as education and emergency services, and to an enhanced quality of life for the community. We also expect to employ an average of 1,600 construction workers during the 5 year construction period and a permanent staff of approximately 180 fulltime employees in managerial, administrative and technical positions when the plant begins operation.
