What will the confrontation between the government and the labor movement entail?
We will use every means allowed us by the law to secure our rights. Let the government try to suppress us by whatever means it wants. So there will be a confrontation… The confrontation has been going on for years because the authorities are against the people. The proof of this is the government’s flagrant behavior in regard to the labor union elections in Sidon last year, and the elections for the GLC Executive Council in Beirut last April. We’re not looking for a confrontation; all we want is to see that the legitimate aspirations of working people are fulfilled. I’ve never known a Lebanese government which so neglected its obligations to its own people. Since your views are so close to those of your colleague Ghanim Zoghbi, can we expect the present division in the ranks of the GLC to end soon?
