What will the clinical coding audit cover?
The audit will look at a sample of 300 Finished Consultant Episodes (FCEs) – or 200 FCEs for specialist Trusts – and check that, based on the case notes, the coding (and therefore the REG which determines the tariff) is accurate. We will undertake one of the following national themes at all sites (excluding specialist sites): • Trauma and Orthopaedics • General Medicine • Paediatrics The rest of the audit will be targeted using the national benchmarking information developed in conjunction with the Information Centre. As noted there will be local flexibility to choose areas of interest, based on the National Benchmarker.
