What will the ACCESS for ELLs scores be used for?
Scores for ACCESS for ELLs, of course, will provide you with your students level of academic English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, writing, and comprehension. These scores will assist you in making placement decisions and in gauging instruction appropriate to your students English proficiency level. It will permit you to take better advantage of the two publications relating to WIDAs standards that were used to create ACCESS for ELLs and the Maine English language arts performance indicators of the Learning Results that now matches the WIDA standards. Ultimately, teaching is enhanced. It must be noted, too, that annual ACCESS for ELLs testing will now form the basis for determining the extent to which Maine schools are making progress in assuring that ELLs are acquiring English language proficiency pursuant to No Child Left Behind requirements.
