What will pc technology be like in 10 years time?
Well, just look at what was considered state of the art in 1999, compared to now: Pentium III 500MHz or Athlon 500MHz processor 256MB RAM 20GB hard drive Riva TNT 2 or Voodoo 3 3000 AGP graphics card Windows 98SE I actually think the drive will be towards smaller and more energy efficient technology, rather than the “GHz race” of the late 90s or the “2 cores, 4 cores” drive of today. Are we going to have processors with 16 cores all running at 15GHz – I don’t think so, to be honest. But the CPUs will use a lot less energy while still being more powerful than what we have today. We’ll have bigger hard drives, but we’ll see more emphasis on SSD technology over the next few years. RAM technology will continue to improve, and I think that a typical PC of 10 years time will have 32GB or 64GB of RAM. We’ll have bigger and better monitors, probably using LED technology. Most domestic PCs will be in small form factor cases – the familiar ATX case will either be a thing of the past or reserved
