What will happen with Sony DVD recorders in the future?
When Sony decides to continue its Dual RW approach, it has to decide whether it continues to strip DVD+RW functionality in an attempt to streamline DVD-RW and DVD+RW behaviour. When DVD recorders in general, and DVD+RW in particular, are becoming more popular, it is very likely that people will get used to the features offered by the DVD+RW format. This leaves Sony no choice but to implement these features as well. As succeeding models will initially be based on this design, they will most likely suffer from the same limitations. However, it is very likely that next year’s recorders will include more extensive DVD+RW support, starting with the inclusion of DVD+R writing. However, it is also quite possible that Sony decides to abandon the Dual RW principle in future recorder models, as it allows them to be more competitive (as a result of a less complicated technical design and reduced licensing costs), and it enables them to offer all DVD+RW functionality without the risk of different
