What will happen to the trash-burning power plant in Claremont and the high costs associated with it?
When PSNH assumes the CVEC franchise, it will also assume the existing obligation to purchase power produced by the Wheelabrator trash-burning facility through the duration of the contract. The cost of that power is higher than the current market price for power or the price at which PSNH produces power itself. However, the contract terminates in 2007, at which time the cost to PSNH customers, including former CVEC customers, will be reduced. PSNH will also have the opportunity to negotiate with Wheelabrator to reduce those costs sooner.
