Principal investigators should be aware that these furlough days will result in unused grant funds. In some cases, these unused grant funds can be used for salary at a later date. Certain grant sponsors will allow these funds to be re-budgeted to a category other than salary without sponsor approval; other grant sponsors may require sponsor approval. Should the furlough requirements take valuable time away from a project such that it cannot be completed as planned, a no-cost extension should be pursued. If you have questions regarding re-budgeting or the need for a no-cost extension, please contact the Office for Sponsored Programs at (706) 542-5939. The furlough will not cause UGA to experience unfunded fringe benefits costs normally charged to grant or non-state accounts.
