What will happen to my Carer’s Allowance if the person I care for goes into hospital?

A. This will depend on how long they are in hospital and whether you will still care for them once they leave hospital. If you will be providing care on their return home you will still be entitled to Carer’s Allowance until the person loses their DLA or AA which is after 4 weeks if the disabled person is an adult and 12 weeks if they are a child. If you are going to stop providing care permanently your Carer’s Allowance will stop straightaway.
