What will happen in art, music and dance therapies?
The client undergoing these forms of therapy will be encouraged to use the medium to express themselves. In art therapy the individual will be helped to draw, paint or find another way to express or communicate feelings or thoughts that may be suppressed or haven’t been expressed before. Music therapy introduces the person in therapy to a range of instruments. The person will be encouraged to use different instruments, such as percussion or string, to communicate with their therapist. Dance/Movement therapy focuses on the client using their body to express how they feel and to communicate through movement. All of these therapies attempt to create a relationship and understanding between the client and the therapist that will establish trust and a safe form of expression for the client.
