What will happen if the tax rate referendum fails?
If the referendum fails District 39 will need to make significant budget cuts over the next two years. • Class sizes guidelines will increase as follows: 26 for K-2, 30 for grades 3-5, and 33 for grades 6-8. (Current guidelines are 24 for K-2, 27 for 3-5, and 30 for 6-8.) • 25% of the teachers – 80 of 328 – will be cut, roughly 40 each year for the next two years. • ALL foreign language (K-8), instrumental music (5-8), and reading intervention will be eliminated. • ALL librarians, technology teachers & differentiation/gifted specialists will be eliminated. • Time K-4 children spend in music, art, and PE will be reduced by 25-50%.
