What will happen if I stop taking insulin shots ?
The very simple answer is, sorry to say, is that yes, you will die. And quickly. For a person with established Type 1 diabetes (which it sounds like you have), you will quickly fall into a coma which will be fatal if uncorrected. It is a terrible way to go. Since you make virtually no insulin to sustain yourself, DKA, or even a coma can begin to happen in as little as a day or two. In fact, a girl who’s parents took her insulin pump from her died in about 3 days without any insulin. Granted, you will go into DKA rapidly in this case since there is no long acting insulin in the pump, but the idea still stands. You will die, and die rapidly. And it is not a nice way to go. My concern is that you are not aware of this fact. Have you ever had any formal diabetes education? Do you attend a clinic? See a specialist? A diabetes nurse educator?
