What will happen if I deposit a business check into the ATM two days early?
Business checks are usually drawn off a positive pay system, so the checks are not activated by check number until that file is uploaded by the issuer. That check likely won’t make it to a processing site before Monday anyway. Don’t worry about it. But don’t play that in the future because if these were business days instead of a weekend, you could get nailed.
There is a chance that the check will be returned. Although it’s the depositor’s (your) responsibility to honor the check’s payment date, those involved in the processing of the check will return post-dated checks. It is possible that the check will go through without a problem but I wouldn’t risk it – it may take up to 5 business days to get it back if they do return it.
