What will happen during a session of Hypnotherapy?
To enable you to relax, the hypnotherapist may ask you to focus your attention – perhaps on your breathing, or on the sound of his / her voice, or may ask you to visualise something calming or pleasant. This will help you to slow down your brainwaves and to feel relaxed and comfortable. You will not usually fall asleep but experience a tranquil state, whilst hearing what the therapist is saying. All you need to do is to let yourself relax and concentrate on the sound of your hypnotherapist’s voice. You will not lose control and the hypnotherapist cannot make you say or do anything you don’t want to. During hypnosis your unconscious mind will only accept suggestions that will be beneficial to you and reject suggestions that are not in your interest. A successful outcome depends on a high level of trust between you and the therapist. At the end of the session the therapist will give you some suggestions to return to your normal waking state.
