What will government do with savings from reducing the cost of drugs?
Government’s efforts to get better prices for prescription drugs are aimed at slowing the growth of spending on drugs, not spending less on drugs. If no measures are taken, spending on drugs, through the Pharmacare programs, will grow by almost seven per cent this year over last year. If there are savings, decisions on what will be done with these savings will be made in the context of government’s overall priorities.
