What will be the next step in evolution after Homo sapiens?
We have become so intelligent and we are beginning to understand the details of our bodies so well that natural evolution will no longer have time to affect us as a species. We will be deciding what our bodies will be like and within a few decades we will completely control our physical forms. Yes, we may “merge” our bodies with technology, but we may simply engineer our bodies genetically to be free of disease, to be smarter, to be stronger, and to live much, much longer lives. I believe that ours is one of the last generations of Homo sapiens sapiens, and soon Homo sapiens superiorus or some such designation will be replacing us. Or we ourselves will become Homo sapiens superiorus. There is already a considerable amount of transhumanist speculation on the subject. It is a primary theme and many recent science fiction novels, but also nonfiction novels.
