The emergency package should be of great benefit to indigenous peoples because it will help to conserve the rainforests on which they depend. Indigenous peoples and local communities would also directly benefit from the financing that would be available for sustainable development in and around the forests. The PRP’s proposals would ensure that indigenous peoples and other local communities are fully consulted during the drawing up of development plans, participate in the governance of in-country disbursement mechanisms and are able to use appeal mechanisms to raise potential complaints.
