What will be the cost of connecting to the VEN Backbone Network?
The Australian Government will meet the full cost of establishing the VEN Backbone Network, together with its operating costs, for an initial establishment period of three years. Costs beyond that time, and mechanisms for meeting those costs, will be considered as part of a comprehensive review of the VEN which will be completed prior to the expiration of the initial establishment period. The cost of connecting existing networks serving TAFE institutions in each state and territory to the VEN Backbone Network will be covered as part of Stage One of the broadband element of VEN. The Australian Government proposes to use funds remaining after the VEN Backbone Network is established to contribute to the costs of establishing connections between the VEN Backbone Network and TAFE campuses.
