What will a college degreee do for police officer?
One of your posters, Fatboy, took the words right out of my mouth, because this applies to ALL who want to consider a job in law enforcement (i.e. police, sheriffs, parole, corrections, jails, or prisons, etc.). Every agency has its own criteria, before you can even consider going into their academy (previously, they only wanted 60 college units, but that’s also changing). Nowadays, they want a degree. It puts in a higher bracket in terms of hiring, bonus, promotional & retirement points-depending on the agency that you’re interested in. When you’re aiming for promotions, the more knowledge/advanced you happen to be in terms of experience, but also a degree, the higher your earnings would be. And of course, in the long run, the degree is something to fall back on. Yes, the fieldwork experience you gather up and accumulate on your job, helps out tremendously. I’m here in Los Angeles, for your information.
