What were womens roles in society in 1912?
Depends, for, or against marriage? But the interesting part here, is the prevailing argument for women’s ‘freedom’, arguing that women who favoured marriage had actually ‘been fooled’ into thinking marriage was the only form of achieving dignity and worth. Many argue women had been socialised or indoctrinated, even, into thinking marriage was an ultimate ideal. With that, there was a strong women’s opposition against a patriarchal society that promoted marriage and women’s ‘place in the home’. In general, one view was that marriage was seen as a rewarding status BUT, marriage was also seen as a form of control (by men over women). Women’s rights (equal, voting) were virtually non-existent, but the choice of marriage was seen more prominently as having a moral and spiritual virtue, important to family life, a backbone of society, supportive of industry and well-being. As in its inherent status, marriage may have been its own form of freedom. Favoured tax laws for married couples..? On o

It was the first year women competed in the Olympics and nine of the swimming events were being contested. Quong Wing v. The King where a china men sued because he was charged with statutes of Saskatchewan which prohibited white women from working in businesses owned by China men. He lost. Women’s colleges were popping up through out the US and much much more… It all depends on which women you want to know about as women in different parts of the world were treated differently.
