What were Warrens solo shows like?
Warren had a 45 minute set that was perfect for in-stores, but his real forte was the 2-3 hour concert that really showcases his talent. A usual set included all of the songs from Thanks 2 Frank, plus two or three Frank Zappa songs (usually “Transylvania Boogie” & “Chunga’s Revenge” at the least), and “Ordinary World.” At some shows he did more than this – at the Under Acme show in New York on March 26, 1996, he performed “Crystal Ship” (alone, without the drummer & bassist, encouraging the audience to sing the vocal), and in other shows he has done Zappa’s “Muffin Man” or “Willie The Pimp.” These shows are all instrumental, with just Warren, a drummer and a bassist. At his March 1996 shows he had a new introduction to “The Spider” and a few new songs, one of which was untitled (now called “Whatever You Say, Mac”), one which was called “The Beating,” and one which he called “The Song Formerly Known As All For A Backstage Pass” (now called “Roadrage”).
