What were the short-term effects of Belgian rule to the Belgian Congo?
Leopold II was a very progressive King and wanted to expand European influence to Africa. Through a strange coincidence the smallets European Country got the biggest piece of Africa (Congo is the largest african country). The spreading of culture in Africa was in fact another name for colonialism. This meant that a minority with the Church in the front row would exploit a country in a most infamous way. First the people against this “spreading of culture” were massacred and the others were used to extract gold, silver, diamonds, copper, and other rare minerals for the Belgian Government, they were used as slaves practically. The repression was of the same type as in a dictatorial system and the rights of the Africans were neglected completely.
