There was a ridiculous hierarchy where they were a lot better off than the blacks who were treated appallingly and had to have travel permits just to move around. But they didn’t have the same rights as whites. They couldn’t go to white beaches or white cinemas and all that kind of stuff. Mixed marriages were highly illegal.
