Of even more importance though is that we would have been out of Viet Nam a lot sooner than we were since he was running on an anti-war platform. Had he not been assassinated and gotten elected President, we would have been spared the Presidency of Richard Nixon, a national disgrace if there ever was one. We would have been spared Watergate and his resignation. In addition, had Kennedy been elected President, since he was a champion of the poor, its safe to assume that he would have made some steps in helping to alleviate that problem as well, although he couldn’t have eliminated it since we have always had, and always will have, the poor.
