Actually, you would be had put to find a positive from the Communist Soviet Union. I can only think of one, Mikhail Gorbachev, the Man Of The 20th Century in my book, who brought it down.

I think the most positive thing you could attribute to the Soviet Union was that crime was virtually non-existent. After Stalin, people weren’t getting randomly executed and the people who did commit crimes were swiftly dealt with. In a society where the government has so much control like the Soviet Union, decisions can be made much faster without having to worry about the effects it has on the people. Living in the Soviet Union, you could expect the government to get something done, this as you already know came at a cost, the people had to give up individual liberty. Looking at Russia and the former Soviet states now however it’s a mess, they’ve got crime all over the place and poverty levels have increased since the collapse of the USSR. The USSR was doomed to fail from the start, you simply can’t keep a country in such a totalitarian society while the rest of the world progresses to enjoy individual freedom without the people noticing something’s not right. I would go on to preach
