What were the main features of totalitarian dictatorship in Nazi Germany?
Most Germans approved of Hitler. His government provided jobs and restored national pride. Its brutality was open but it was accepted by most. Propaganda continually told them that strength was necessary and the vast majority of people wither accepted this, were unaffected by it personally or were too scared to object. The Nazis stressed the virtues of loyalty and obedience. The rights of the German nation came before the rights of an individual. The One Party State The only party allowed was the Nazi party. It was essential to be a loyal member in order to progress in your career especially if you worked for the state in any way. E.g. Civil Servant or Teacher. Law and Order The SS (Schutz Staffel) and the Secret Police (Gestapo) under the control of Himmler made terror a matter of state policy.
