What were the immediate effects of Haiti earthquake?
immediate effects of the earthquake and the aftershocks were that electricity lines snapped or simply stopped working due to the natural disaster along with phone lines which would also affect mobiles picking up signal therefore preventing any electronic communication. Water pipes burst consequently drowning out all clean water in Southern Haiti and due to the fact that many people were left homeless, Haitians have set up shelters (and have been sent shelter boxes as well) and created a small community. However, there is no water supply because of the earthquake and no sewage system either so diseases such as cholera and diarrhea are easily spread around the affected areas of the earthquake. Also, with dead bodies rotting in the hot sun the risk of these life threatening diseases has increased even more so.
