Some students included some additional research, but most students used materials from the websites and course readings. We expected the students to use the final paper as an opportunity to critique both the websites and class concepts in ways that they could not have done earlier in the course because they lacked the detailed case information. So, we encouraged them to rely primarily on the information contained in the web-sites. Earlier, we had assigned a more traditional research paper that encouraged the students to continue their research on an industry by delving deeper into a particular area that most interested them. Such an assignment proved to be too onerous after the group project. Too many students felt “burned out” on their own research, and, to our surprise, chose to research new industries or new topics in the last weeks of the semester.
