What were the features of the Atomic Model prior to Rutherford?
It was thought to be known as the Plum-Pudding model proposed by Thompson, where instead of the Rutherford model with a nucleus and electrons orbiting round, they thought it was just an atom full of mixed positive and negative charges randomly positioned, which cancelled each other out to make the atom neutral. Rutherford disproved this theory with his now famous Gold-foil experiment, where alpha particles were getting deflected by angles of more than 90 degrees, which hinted at something being large at the centre of the atom – otherwise it would be like throwing a car at a football and the car comes flying back.
